President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev approved "State policy bases of ecological development of the Russian Federation till 2030", where fundamentals of Russian state ecological policy are stated.

The government is committed to ensuring the long-term "green growth economy, maintaining a favorable environment, biodiversity and natural resources to meet the needs of present and future generations".

In the document the main objectives of the state policy are recognized as follows: introduction of eco-efficient innovative technologies; prevention and reduction of the current negative impact on the environment; restoration of disturbed natural ecosystems; environmentally safe waste management and others.

According to the document one of the main techniques for development of economic regulation and market-based instruments for environmental protection is mechanism of "sustainable use of renewable natural resources".
